Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid battled to a 1-1 tie in the first leg of Spain's Super Cup, with both goals coming in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

The clash between La Liga winner Atletico and Copa del Rey champion Real unfolded before a crowd of 82,000 at the Blancos' Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Atletico will host Friday's second leg at Vicente Calderon stadium.

Colombian striker James Rodriguez, a sensation at the 2014 World Cup and one of several high-priced acquisitions made by the Blancos over the summer, took advantage of a moment of confusion in front of Atletico's goal to give Real a 1-0 lead in the 81st minute.

The Colchoneros equalized seven minutes later, picking up a valuable away goal on Raul Garcia's headed off a corner kick. EFE
