Spain's Garbiñe Muguruza, who had a fantastic run at the French Open that took her all the way to the quarterfinals, has pulled out of the grasscourt tournament in Birmingham due to a lingering injury.
The 20-year-old Venezuelan-born Muguruza, who pulled off the biggest upset of the French Open by taking out American world No. 1 Serena Williams 6-2, 6-2 in the second round, plans to travel to the Netherlands later this week to compete in 's-Hertogenbosch, which is also a grasscourt event.
Muguruza's performance at Roland Garros helped her improve her ranking to No. 27 in the world in singles. EFE
