LeBron James put on a brilliant display for the fans at Miami's American Airlines Arena, scoring a career-high 61 points as the Heat beat the Charlotte Bobcats 124-107.

James hit 22 of 33 from the field, including 8 three-pointers, and was 9 of 12 from the foul line as he surpassed the franchise record of 56 points, set by Glen Rice on April 15, 1995, in a game against Orlando.

The reigning league MVP's previous best performance came on March 20, 2005, when he scored 56 for Cleveland against Toronto.

James' feat completely overshadowed Al Jefferson's 38 points and 19 rebounds for the Bobcats as the Heat won their eighth straight to bring their record to 43-14.

Miami, out to win their third successive NBA title, were without Dwyane Wade, who got the night off. EFE
