Polish cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk picked up her fifth Olympic medal Thursday by taking gold in the women's 10K classical race at the Sochi Games.
Kowalczyk covered the distance in 28:17.8, beating out Sweden's Charlotte Kalla by 18.4 seconds. The bronze medal went to Norway's Therese Johaug, who finished 28.3 seconds behind the winner.
The race was held at the Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex.
Kalla won the 10K gold four years ago in Vancouver, although on that occasion the format was freestyle.
In the Vancouver Games, the 31-year-old Kowalczyk won gold in the 30K classical, silver in the sprint and bronze in the 15K pursuit. She also took home the bronze medal in the 30K freestyle at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. EFE
