Real Madrid defensive midfielder Xabi Alonso said Wednesday on Twitter that he signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Spanish-league powerhouse until June 30, 2016.

The 32-year-old Spaniard tweeted that he inked the new contract Wednesday afternoon and also posted a photo of Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

"I'm delighted and honoured to announce that Real Madrid will continue to be my home for another two years," Alonso wrote.

Alonso has been a member of Los Blancos since the start of the 2009-2010 season after signing a deal worth around 30 million euros, playing a key role on the team that won the 2011-12 La Liga title.
