FC Barcelona and U.S. multinational semiconductor chipmaker Intel have announced a five-year technology partnership agreement.

The terms of the deal are "confidential," according to the head of Barça's media and sponsorship division, Manel Arroyo, although media reports indicated the club could receive around $5 million annually from Intel.

The chipmaker's blue "Intel Inside" logo will be printed on the underside of the Spanish club's jerseys.

"This agreement lends us a global presence. Just like Audi, Qatar Airways and Nike, Intel will help us communicate the Barça world," Arroyo said, noting that it is the first such deal Intel has signed in the sport of soccer.

Two FC Barcelona players, Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, wore the new jerseys during Thursday's presentation, which was also attended by the club's president, Sandro Rosell, and Intel's vice president and chief marketing officer, Deborah Conrad.

As part of the deal, an Intel "creative lab" will be set up at La Masia, the Spanish powerhouse's training academy in Barcelona, Conrad said. EFE
