Spain's Rafael Nadal and Serbia's Novak Djokovic are gearing up for the Paris Masters, where they will resume their battle for the No. 1 ranking in men's tennis.
Nadal announced Friday on Twitter that he would not be competing in this week's Swiss Indoors event in Basel, citing the need to rest after a demanding season.
The 27-year-old Spanish tennis star is skipping the event in Basel to focus on the Paris Masters and the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Djokovic is resting and practicing as he prepares for Paris after an extremely successful Asia swing.
Nadal will not be defending any points in Paris and Djokovic only has 10 points on the line, while the Spanish star will not be defending any points in London and the Serbian is the defending champion.
Nadal is at No. 1, with 11,520 points, while Djokovic is a close No. 2 with 11,120 points.
Spain's David Ferrer, who is at No. 3 with 6,800 points, Britain's Andy Murray, who has 6,295 points and holds the No. 4 spot, and Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro, the world No. 5 with 5,365 points, round out the top five.
