FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi will be out of action for two to three weeks due to a leg injury, the team said.

Messi was injured during Barcelona's 2-0 win over Almeria on Saturday.

The Argentine striker felt discomfort in his right thigh after scoring the first of his team's two goals, left the field and was replaced by Xavi Hernandez.

FC Barcelona confirmed Sunday that the injury occurred in the right thigh, but club officials did not say whether it was a muscle tear or a pull.

Messi will be out for Tuesday's Champions League match against Celtic in Scotland and will miss the Spanish League game against Valladolid next Saturday.

The four-time world player of the year is expected to rejoin Argentina, which qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil several weeks ago, during the upcoming break.
