Manchester United boss David Moyes wants Nemanja Vidic to sign a new deal at the club hailing the player as the best defender he has ever worked with.
Vidic's current deal expires at the end of the season and reports have suggested a number of clubs from abroad are lining up moves to land the Serbian on a free transfer next summer.
Moyes has been impressed by Vidic since taking over at Old Trafford and expects the club to resolve the United captain's long-term future.
"I didn't know about Vida's contract. I have not looked into it yet.
"I am sure the chief executive and the club will be doing that.
"He's not old. He is a really top centre half. The best I have worked with, that's for sure."
Meanwhile, Moyes admits he fears losing starlet Adnan Januzaj when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The Belgian has broken into the United side this season after impressing in pre-season and is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at Old Trafford.
Manchester City are thought to be monitoring Januzaj's contract situation and Moyes admits he fears the midfielder could be lured away as he has "some influences round him".
"We really think an awful lot of Adnan. He is a Manchester United player," added Moyes.
"We think this is the best place for producing and giving youngsters an opportunity. We think we do it better than anybody.
"It is what we want. It is part of my remit to promote young players and Adnan has been promoted already and the next part is to become a regular first-team player.
"He is keen to stay, but he has some influences round him."
