German Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel grabbed pole position for Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix, while Spain's Fernando Alonso will start seventh.

Vettel posted a lap time of 1:42.841 in Saturday's qualifying at the Marina Bay Street Circuit and will be joined on the first row by countryman Nico Rosberg, who drives for Mercedes.

The German secured his fifth pole position of the season, and on Sunday will seek his seventh win of 2013.

French Lotus driver Romain Grosjean and Vettel's Red Bull teammate, Mark Webber, will start from the second row after recording times of 1:43.058 and 1:43.152, respectively.

Alonso will start on the fourth row alongside British McLaren driver Jenson Button.

The Spaniard has 169 points but is a distant second in this year's Formula One drivers' standings behind the three-time defending champion Vettel, who has 222 points. EFE
