Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi, who is reportedly coveted by Real Madrid, left an abbreviated training session Thursday morning without offering any clues about his immediate future.

Illarramendi, who returned to the Spanish-league club's training facility in the northern town of Zubieta after helping lead Spain to the title in the Israeli-hosted 2013 UEFA European Under-21 tournament, was applauded by several hundred fans when he took the field 30 minutes after most of his teammates.

His supporters included a large group of children, who shouted out "Illarra stay!" while asking for his autograph.

One of the children asked the player - a product of Real Sociedad's youth system - if he intended to stay with the team, but Illarramendi continued the autograph session without giving an answer.

The 23-year-old player then left the facility without speaking to reporters.

Illarramendi is expected to train again with the San Sebastian-based club Thursday afternoon, when the club's new kit is to be unveiled. EFE
