Australian squad Orica-GreenEdge won Tuesday's fourth-stage team time trial in this resort city, allowing Simon Gerrans to don the Tour de France leader's yellow jersey.
Orica completed the course in 25 minutes, 56 seconds - just 1 second faster than Omega Pharma-Quick Step.
The outcome left Gerrans in first place overall, followed by Orica teammates Daryl Impey and Michael Albasini and Omega riders Michal Kwiatkowski and Sylvain Chavanel.
The rest of the top 10 includes only one of the men seen as viable contenders to win the 2013 Tour, Briton Chris Froome, who trails Gerrans by 3 seconds.
Froome is now 6 seconds ahead of Spain's Alberto Contador, a two-time Tour winner, and 23 seconds ahead of Australian Cadel Evans, who won cycling's premier event in 2011.
The race continues Wednesday with Stage 5: a 142-mile-long flat ride from Cagnes-sur-Mer to Marseille. EFE
