RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – Bjorn Kuipers of the Netherlands will referee Sunday's Confederations Cup final between Brazil and Spain.
The final match of the World Cup warm-up tournament will be played at the Maracana Stadium, the same venue that will host next year's World Cup final.
Kuipers, aged 40, who has been a FIFA referee since 2006, says ''to reach this level, it takes hard work and we've done it.'' Kuipers refereed this year's Europa League final between Chelsea vs. Benfica.
The Dutchman says he is expecting a ''wonderful'' final between the hosts and the world champions, and hopes that ''after the final, nobody's talking about the referee.''
