Spain's Federation Cup team is set for the April 20-21 World Group playoff against Japan in Barcelona, team captain Conchita Martinez said Wednesday.
Carla Suarez is back and will be joined by Lourdes Dominguez, Silvia Soler and Lara Arruabarrena, who is making her Fed Cup debut, Martinez said.
The playoff will take place at Barcelona's Polo Club.
Suarez, the top-ranked Spanish player, will be back after missing the previous two rounds.
Japan will be without 42-year-old veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm and will have to rely on Ayumi Morita, Misaki Doi, Kurumi Nara and Shuko Aoyama, who is making her Fed Cup debut, captain Takeshi Murakami said.
This will be only the second Fed Cup meeting between Spain and Japan.
Spain beat Japan 3-0 in a playoff in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1994, thanks to the play of current captain Conchita Martinez.
Spain reached the playoff by beating Ukraine 3-1 in the first round of World Group II.
The Federation Cup is the top team event in women's tennis.
Rounds are played over two days and all matches are best-of-three sets, with the doubles scheduled as the fifth and final match.
Eight countries compete in the Federation Cup's World Group. EFE
