Russia's Maria Sharapova took to the court Monday for the first time at this year's Australian Open and walked away with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over countrywoman Olga Puchkova.

The 25-year-old Sharapova, who is the No. 2 seed at the tournament, needed just 55 minutes to beat Puchkova.

Sharapova dominated the 25-year-old Puchkova from start to end, making easy work of her opponent, who is ranked 107th in the world.

The Australian Open, the year's first Grand Slam tournament, began on Monday in Melbourne. EFE
