Malaga CF qualified for the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey with a 4-1 win here Tuesday over Eibar, but the home side spent much of the match trailing their modest opponents.

Malaga, currently fourth in La Liga and gearing up for the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League, found themselves struggling against the third-division club.

Though Eibar lost at home 2-1 in the first leg, the upstart squad that earlier eliminated last year's Copa runner-up, Athletic Bilbao, took a 1-0 lead Tuesday with a goal in the 11th minute.

The visitors made their advantage hold up until the 74th minute, when Malaga scored what would turn out to be the first of four goals in 16 minutes to assure their passage to the quarterfinals.

In Tuesday's other Copa del Rey action, Valencia needed a goal in stoppage time to eke out a 2-1 home victory over Osasuna.

After falling 2-0 at home in the first leg, Osasuna came into Valencia with little to lose and dominated play for the first hour of the match.

Valencia managed to score in the 34th minute, only to see the visitors answer three minutes later.

The match was still tied at the end of regulation, but Soldado tallied for Valencia in stoppage time, giving the home side a 4-1 win on aggregate and sending them into the quarterfinals. EFE
