German power forward Dirk Nowitzki's return to the Dallas Mavericks was underwhelming and the team fell to the San Antonio Spurs 129-91.
Nowitzki did not expect to log many minutes after missing the first 27 games of the season, but he did even less than expected after the Spurs pretty much put the game away in the first 20 minutes of action.
The Spurs (21-8), who have the third best record in the Western Conference, set a team record with 20 three-pointers, breaking the mark of 19 set on Dec. 8 in Charlotte against the Bobcats.
San Antonio also won by its biggest point margin of the season.
Nowitzki, who had surgery on his right knee before the start of the season, was greeted with a mix of applause and whistles by fans at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
The big power forward scored only 8 points in his season debut.
Nowitzki hit on 3 of 4 field goals, including the only three-pointer he tried, and was 1 of 2 from the free throw line. He added six rebounds and a steal. EFE
