Quarterback Mark Sanchez has been benched after the New York Jets' most recent defeat, a loss on Monday Night Football that eliminated them from playoff contention.
Head coach Rex Ryan, who also finds himself on the hot seat, decided to bench Sanchez after he threw four interceptions and just one touchdown in the Jets' 14-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.
According to the New York Daily News, the Jets will hand the ball over to Greg McElroy for the team's Week 16 game against the San Diego Chargers.
That decision means that Tim Tebow, supposedly the Jets' No. 2 quarterback all season, has been overlooked for the job.
Tebow, who captured national headlines last season by helping guide the Denver Broncos to the playoffs and a surprising Wild Card victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, has played very sparingly in 2012.
In his short tenure as a member of the New York Jets, he has completed just 6-of-8 passes for 39 yards and rushed for 102 yards on 32 attempts. EFE
