LONDON (AP) – Zenit St. Petersburg beat AC Milan 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday to qualify for the Europa League.
Milan, which had already qualified for the knockout stage, dominated the game but Danny scored the only goal in the 35th minute to ensure the Russian side finished third in Group C - ahead of Anderlecht.
Hiowever, the Rossoneri were denied what appeared a clear penalty early on when Bruno Alves toppled Giampaolo Pazzini.
Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri rotated his squad, leaving top goalscorer Stephan El Shaaraway on the bench, while Djamel Mesbah, Cristian Zapata, Mathieu Flamini and Giampaolo Pazzini were handed rare starts.
Milan has only won four of its last 18 European games at home.
It is Zenit's first win in Italy in European competition.
