David Beckham could return to play for the English League and could be signed by Queens Park Rangers, or QPR, the team's recently-named coach, Harry Redknapp, said Sunday.

The former captain of the English team "could still play in the Premier League" and, although he has not spoken about it to the team chairman, "we'd have to look at that," Redknapp told the BBC.

"David could still certainly be a great asset to anybody ... His professionalism is second to none," said Redknapp, whose move to coach the London-based QPR, which is bringing up the rear in the league at present after 13 matches without a win, was announced Saturday after Mark Hughes was sacked.

The 37-year-old Beckham revealed last week that he will leave his current team, the Los Angeles Galaxy, in December after a six-year stint and, in a statement, said he hopes "to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career."

Redknapp tried to sign Beckham in 2011 when he was the coach of Tottenham, a club he left at the end of last season, although the center-fielder could only train with the London team.

The new Rangers coach, who on Saturday watched his team go down to a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, is facing the challenge of reviving the club despite having acknowledged that "there's no money" to sign anyone in January. EFE
