The San Diego Chargers placed left tackle Jared Gaither on injured reserve, ending what the team considers an unproductive season.

"We've given Jared Gaither every opportunity to be a part of this team and it just hasn't worked out," head coach Norv Turner said.

"Physically, he hasn't been able to be part of it," Turner, who appeared disappointed at the way the tackle's season ended, said.

Gaither played in just four games and missed most of training camp, as well as the first three games of the regular season, due to a back injury.

He later sustained a groin injury in the Chargers' loss to the New England Patriots, playing in just two games since then.

Turner said undrafted rookie free agent Mike Harris would replace Gaither. EFE
