German Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel has captured pole position for Sunday's U.S. Grand Prix, while his lone remaining challenger for this year's Formula One title, Spain's Fernando Alonso, will start a distant ninth.
Vettel claimed the top spot with a fastest lap of 1 minute, 35.657 in qualifying Saturday on the Circuit of the Americas track in Austin, Texas, while English McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton will join him on the front line after coming in second.
The German, who is seeking his third straight F1 title, leads this year's Drivers' standings with 255 points, 10 ahead of Alonso - who drives for Ferrari - with just two races to go.
He can wrap up the title if he scores 15 points more than Alonso on Sunday. EFE
