Free-agent outfielder Torii Hunter has signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the reigning American League champion Detroit Tigers.

According to a source close to the negotiations, the contract is pending until Hunter, 37, passes a physical exam.

The right fielder owns a career .277 batting average with 297 home runs and has won nine Gold Gloves in 14 seasons with the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Angels.

Although Hunter hit a career-best .313 with the Angels in 2012, the last season of a five-year, $90 million contract, the team decided not to extend him a qualifying offer by the Nov. 2 deadline.
