MARSEILLE, France (AP) – A German man died of a heart attack after swimming in the sea before Borussia Moenchengladbach's Europa League match against Marseille on Thursday.
Maritime emergency services in Marseille said the 65-year-old German died on the beach after going swimming and that they were unable to revive him despite lengthy attempts. He was pronounced dead on the spot, the spokesperson said by telephone on Thursday.
The accident occurred in the Prado area of Marseille, not far from the city's football stadium.
The website of the seaport city's La Provence local newspaper said the man was a football supporter and had developed hypothermia, but this was not immediately confirmed by the maritime services.
