JOHANNESBURG (AP) – South Africa has lined up a friendly against Norway in January as part of its final preparations before hosting the African Cup of Nations.
Bafana Bafana will play Norway at the rarely used Cape Town World Cup stadium on Jan. 8, just under two weeks before the start of the African championship.
The South African Football Association says the national team would then have one more warm-up game before facing Cape Verde in the African Cup opener on Jan. 19.
SAFA also says coach Gordon Igesund is in England this week to meet clubs over the release of their South Africa internationals for the tournament.
FIFA rules say players should be released two weeks before the tournament. South Africa wants its players three weeks ahead of kickoff.
