RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – Brazilian club Vasco da Gama says it has ended its contract with coach Marcelo Oliveira in mutual agreement after the team's sixth consecutive league loss.
Oliveira had a contract until the end of 2013 but stayed less than two months as head of the four-time national champion.
Monday's announcement came a day after Vasco lost 3-0 at home to Sport, which is trying to avoid relegation.
Oliveira coached Vasco in 10 matches, earning two wins, two draws and six losses.
Vasco finished runner-up last year but is seventh in the 20-team standings with 50 points from 34 matches. It was fighting for a spot in next year's Copa Libertadores until its recent struggles began.
Brazilian media reported that Oliveira has already started negotiations to join Cruzeiro at the end of the year.
