Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has played 467 matches with the club, a new record for goalkeepers in the Spanish first division.

The old mark, 466, was set by Jose Angel Iribar during his 1962-1980 tenure with Athletic Club de Bilbao.

Casillas, who broke Iribar's record on Saturday with his appearance in Madrid's 4-0 home win over Zaragoza, also has the most victories - 303 - with a single club of any goalkeeper in the history of La Liga.

Andoni Zubizarreta won 333 matches between 1979 and 1998, but he did it with three different teams: Athletic Club, Barcelona and Valencia.

The 31-year-old Casillas, captain of the Spanish national squad that won the 2008 and 2012 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup, is currently fourth on the list of goalkeepers who have played the most matches in La Liga.

Now in his 14th season, Casillas has a save percentage of 84.6 percent. EFE
