Germany's Sebastian Vettel finished first in Friday's second practice session for this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, while Spaniard Fernando Alonso came in seventh.

The two-time Formula One world champion appeared unreachable at the end of 33 laps around the Yas Marina Circuit.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who led in the first practice session, came in second in the later run, followed by teammate Jenson Button.

It was a bad day for Alonso, who trailed not only Vettel and the McLaren team, but also the German's Red Bull teammate Mark Webber and the Lotus pair of Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen.

The Spanish driver went into the day with hopes for a better performance from his upgraded Ferrari F2012. EFE
