Tiger Woods got off to a strong start Thursday at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, firing a 5-under 66 to trail fellow American Troy Matteson by three shots.

Woods has returned to Malaysia for the first time since winning the World Cup there 13 years ago.

Americans Brian Harman, Jeff Overton and Robert Garrigus all are one behind Matteson in second place of this PGA Tour event after each shot 64.

Woods bogeyed the eighth and ninth to fall back to even par, but he caught fire on the back nine with five birdies despite coping with high heat and humidity. EFE
