A goal by Jordi Alba in the waning moments of stoppage time gave Barcelona a 2-1 win over visiting Celtic on Tuesday in UEFA Champions League play.
It was a day of surprises, as reigning champ Chelsea lost to Shakhtar Donetsk and Juventus managed only a 1-1 draw with Danish side Nordsjaelland.
Another titan, Manchester United, had to battle back from a 2-1 halftime deficit to beat Braga 3-2 at Old Trafford.
The top scorer in Tuesday's eight matches was Valencia's Roberto Soldado, whose hat trick powered the Spanish club to a 3-0 road win over BATE Borisov.
Portugal's Benfica fell 2-1 to Spartak Moscow in the Russian capital and visiting Bayern Munich beat Lille 1-0, while Galatasaray and CFR Cluj battled to a 1-1 tie.
Shakhtar took a commanding lead in Group E with seven points, followed by Chelsea with four, still-winless Juventus with three and Nordsjaelland with one. Barcelona sits atop Group G with nine points, well ahead of Celtic (four), Spartak (three) and Benfica (one).
Man United is also in the driver's seat in Group H, piling up the maximum possible nine points in its first three matches. CFR Cluj trails with four points, followed by Braga with three and Galatasaray with one.
The tightest race is in Group F, where BATE Borisov, Bayern Munich and Valencia are tied with six points each. Lille has lost all three of its games. EFE
