Croatia striker Nikica Jelavic scored twice as Everton maintained its strong start to the Premier League season with a 3-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Leon Osman was also on target for Everton in its fourth win in six league games, which keeps David Moyes' side three points behind leader Chelsea.

Buoyed by its first win of the campaign last week, Southampton had gone ahead in the sixth minute through deadline-day signing Gaston Ramirez but was pegged back to slump to a fifth loss.

Osman equalized in the 25th after good work by Kevin Mirallas, who then set up Jelavic for the striker's first in the 32nd.

Jelavic doubled his tally six minutes later, taking his haul to 11 in his last 13 league matches.
