The 2012 version of the U.S. "Dream Team" is headed to another Olympic basketball final after overwhelming Argentina here Friday, 109-83, in the second semifinal of the 2012 London Games.
The United States will face Spain on Sunday in a rematch of the 2008 final in Beijing, where the Americans prevailed by 118-107.
After falling behind by 18-6 in the first five minutes, Argentina - led by Luis Scola, Manu Ginobili and Andres Nocioni - regrouped and narrowed the gap to two points, though the U.S. led 24-19 at the end of the opening quarter.
Argentina remained competitive in the second quarter, despite an onslaught from LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, and the South Americans were only seven points behind at the half.
The Argentines edged even closer thanks to Ginobili's three-pointer early in the third quarter, but the United States then went on a tear powered by Kevin Durant, who put away four three-point shots as his team built up a lead of 72-53 on the way to a resounding victory.
Argentina can now look forward to a bronze-medal clash with Russia, defeated by Spain in the other semifinal earlier Friday. EFE
