Colombia's Oscar Muñoz beat Thailand's Pen-Ek Karaket here Wednesday to take the bronze medal in men's 58kg. taekwondo at the 2012 London Olympics.

The two men finished the first round tied at zero, but the Colombian prevailed in the second by a score of 3-1 and came away with the win after the judges penalized the Thai fighter for an illegal blow in the third round.

"It was a very difficult fight, at the end I was able to solve it," the Colombian said, insisting that he never lost confidence that "everything was going to come out fine."

Jannet Alegria of Mexico lost her bronze-medal match in the 49kg category, falling to Croatia's Lucija Zaninovic in four rounds.

"There are great competitors here. What's certain is that it's a different level from everything I've seen," a dejected Alegria said afterward. "It's sad, very sad."

Guatemalan Elisabeth Zamora, who was beaten by Chanatip Sonkham of Thailand in the other women's 49kg bronze match, was more upbeat despite the defeat.

"This have been my first (Olympic) games and it was something very beautiful. This is the biggest and most important competition and I ended in a very good place," Zamora said. EFE
