WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) – Wolfsburg says Brazilian playmaker Diego will be back at the Bundesliga club this season after a one-year loan to Atletico Madrid.
The 27-year-old Diego was loaned out last summer following an incident on the last day of the 2010-11 season, when he stormed out of the team hotel after being told he was only a substitute in a crucial relegation battle.
In an open letter posted Friday on Wolfsburg's website, Diego says he was glad that Wolfsburg and his teammates were giving him ''a second, fair chance.'' He added: ''I hope that you, dear fans, will also give me this second chance.''
Diego, who previously played for Juventus and Werder Bremen, has a contract with Wolfsburg that runs through 2014.
