FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) – The German football federation has appointed Robin Dutt as sporting director to replace Matthias Sammer, who left this month for Bayern Munich.
The DFB says former Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg coach Dutt has agreed to a four-year contract, effective from Aug. 1.
The 47-year-old will oversee the development of Germany's youth players and the training of the country's coaches.
Dutt says he is looking forward to an ''incredibly exciting challenge of developing the land's biggest talents in football.''
Dutt was fired as Leverkusen coach in April. He coached Freiburg for four seasons to 2011.
Sammer spent six years in the role before leaving for Bayern.
