Chilean gymnast Tomas Gonzalez said before traveling to London for the Olympic Games that he cannot promise a medal but that he believes he can deliver a very strong performance.

"There are multiple factors that can play a role in (winning) a medal. I can't guarantee any medal, but I have a good chance to have a very strong performance," Gonzalez told reporters Friday at the Santiago airport.

Although the gymnast is one of Chile's best hopes for an Olympic medal, he was careful not to heap pressure on himself.

"First I have to compete well and then we'll have to see what my rivals do, how the judges score (the performances)," the gymnast, who specializes in the floor exercise and the vault, said.

The 26-year-old Gonzalez, who will compete in the Games starting July 28, has won four gold medals, two silvers and three bronzes at World Cup events and three silvers and two bronzes at Pan American Games. EFE
