SAO PAULO (AP) – Palmeiras won the Brazilian Cup by drawing 1-1 at Coritiba 1-1 on Wednesday, taking the two-legged final 3-1 on aggregate and becoming Brazil's most successful club.
Coritiba opened the scoring with a free kick by Ayrton in the 16th minute, but striker Betinho equalized just four minutes later with a header, putting Luiz Felipe Scolari's team in command.
It was the team's first major trophy since the 1999 Copa Libertadores. It was its 10th national title. It has also won eight national league titles and lifted another Brazilian Cup trophy in 1998.
