Chile striker Junior Fernandes is joining Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen from Universidad de Chile on a five-year contract.

Leverkusen announced the signing of the 24-year-old Fernandes on Friday and said the clubs agreed not to disclose details of the transfer deal.

Leverkusen says he will fill the space in its attack left by Switzerland striker Eren Derdiyok's departure for Hoffenheim.

Sports director Rudi Voeller says Fernandes is ''technically strong and physically robust, fast and efficient in front of goal.''
