French league side Marseille announced Wednesday that it has appointed Elie Baup as manager on a two-year contract.

Baup replaces Didier Deschamps, who left the League 1 club on Monday.

Baup, who spent the past two seasons as a television commentator, last managed Nantes three years ago.

The 57-year-old coach led Bordeaux to the French league title in 1999 and has also managed St Etienne and Toulouse.

Marseille finished 10th in the French league last season and qualified for the Europa League after winning the French League Cup for the third straight year.
