BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) – Egypt has failed to qualify for its second successive African Cup after a 1-1 draw in Central African Republic ensured former U.S. coach Bob Bradley's team missed out 4-3 on aggregate.
Following a shock 3-2 win in Egypt, minnow Central African Republic scored first on Saturday in Bangui through Foxi Kethevoama's 23rd-minute header at the back post. It left Egypt needing three goals to advance to the final round of qualifying for next year's tournament in South Africa.
Emad Meteb equalized in the 72nd from close range, but the visitors couldn't add to his goal and fans poured onto the pitch at the final whistle to celebrate the Central Africans' progression.
Elimination was a bitter blow to Bradley, who was hired after Egypt failed to make this year's finals.
