Oman held Asian giants Australia to a goalless draw in a World Cup qualifier during which both sides struggled to cope with hot and humid condition in the Gulf country.

With the temperature over 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit), neither side was able to organize an attack for 20 minutes.

Australia's first chance came in the 21, but Oman goalkeeper Ali al-Habsi saved David Carney's shot from afar. Carl Valeri tried and failed to overpower al-Habsi ten minutes later.

Archie Thomas had three solid chances in the final 15 minutes but was unable to convert.

Oman tried to pressure harder at the start of the second, although Australia's goal was never threatened.
