Former Australia striker John Aloisi has been appointed coach of the Melbourne Heart in Australian football's A-League for the next three seasons.

The 36-year-old Aloisi replaces John van't Schip who coached the Heart from its admission to the A-League two seasons ago. Aloisi, who previously coached the Melbourne Heart youth team, was chosen ahead of van't Schip's former assistant Ante Milicic.

He is the only Australian to have played in the English Premier League, Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A.
