Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti says he phoned Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlut Erding to try and persuade him to join his club.

PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti has spoken about wanting to sign a new striker, and Erding was not on the substitute's bench last weekend when PSG beat Toulouse 3-1.

Erding didn't even start a game under former coach Antoine Kombouare, who was replaced by Ancelotti last month.

Antonetti told RMC radio on Wednesday that ''I want to play him'' and that ''he would get a completely new start with us.''

Erding, who has played 13 times for Turkey, joined PSG three years ago and scored 15 league goals in 31 games in his first season.
