FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) – The outgoing German football federation president says it's time for gay players to come out.
Theo Zwanziger calls on gay players ''to have the courage to declare themselves.''
Zwanziger says society is more understanding than a few years ago for any gays in football willing to out themselves.
No player in Germany's professional leagues has so far acknowledged his homosexuality.
However, Germany captain Philipp Lahm says the time is not ripe for society to accept that top stars may be gay.
