LONDON – Schalke's United States midfielder Jermaine Jones is under investigation by the German football federation (DFB) for apparently intentionally stepping on the injured foot of an opponent.
Television replays showed Jones stepping on the left foot of Borussia Moenchengladbach's star Marco Reus during a break in the German Cup match Wednesday.
Reus is playing with a specially designed shoe because of a broken toe, but still scored two goals to help Moenchengladbach win 3-1.
The incident was not noticed by the referee. Jones was sent off late in the match in an unrelated incident.
