Palermo has appointed Bortolo Mutti as its coach, replacing the fired Devis Mangia.

Mangia was fired a day after Sunday's 2-0 derby loss at Catania, which left Palermo in 10th place in the Serie A standings after only one win from its last five games.

Mutti returns for a second spell at Palermo. He led the Sicilian side during the 2001-02 season, steering Palermo to 10th place in Serie B but his contract was not renewed by club president Maurizio Zamparini.

Mutti's last job was in charge of Bari last season. But after taking over in February 2011, he was unable to prevent the side from finishing last in Serie A.

The 57-year-old Mutti has also coached Piacenza, Napoli, Reggina, Messina and Atalanta.
