MILWAUKEE- National League MVP Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers is facing a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, sources reported Saturday, citing two sources.
The reason the league has not announced the finding is because Braun is disputing the result through arbitration, the report said.
"There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program," a spokesman for Braun said.
"While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated."
Braun, 28, was reportedly notified of the positive test in late October.
Sources said the result was triggered by elevated levels of testosterone in his system in an initial test and another, more comprehensive test found that those levels were not produced by his body.
