Boston executive Thomas DiBenedetto has been formally named the president of Roma.

DiBenedetto leads a four-man American group that became the first foreign majority owners of a Serie A club when they closed the deal last month.

Still, DiBenedetto had to be formally named president and that move was made at a club board meeting Tuesday.

DiBenedetto says, ''It is truly an honor for me to be formally appointed president and chairman of AS Roma, a team with such a long and glorious history. We will continue to work intensively to bring to the passionate fans of AS Roma a team that they can be proud of.''

Roma has had a slow start to the season, beating Parma 1-0 Sunday for its first victory under new coach Luis Enrique.
