Italy midfielder Riccardo Montolivo appears set to leave Fiorentina at the end of this season.

Fiorentina president Mario Cognigni says that Montolivo has reiterated to the squad that he wants to go to a bigger team, meaning the club captain will likely leave when his contract expires at the end of this season.

Montolivo was hoping to leave Fiorentina before this season started, sparking speculation that he would go to AC Milan or Bayern Munich, but no deal was made.

Fiorentina told Montolivo to decide this week whether or not to renew his contract.

Fiorentina coach Sinisa Mihajlovic won't keep Montolivo out despite his wish to leave, saying ''Riccardo is just like any other player, if he deserves to he'll play.''

Montolivo joined Fiorentina from Atalanta in 2005.
