Real Madrid castaway Pedro Leon has joined rival Spanish league club Getafe on loan for the season.

Both clubs announced the deal on their websites on Wednesday, with Getafe holding an option to buy the Spanish midfielder it sold to Madrid last summer at the close of the loan.

Leon has spent the preseason and start of the season training apart from the first team. Jose Mourinho told the 24-year-old to find a new club as he did not fit into the Portuguese coach's plans.

Leon, who signed a six-year deal after joining Madrid in a ?10 million ($14.5 million) transfer, played 14 games last season scoring three goals, including in the Champions League at AC Milan. His last appearance was in April.

Spanish reports put the buy-out option at ?6 million.
